Josh Tong

Although he is relatively new behind the decks, Josh Tong has established himself as a mainstay in Chicago's Techno scene...

Josh was born and raised outside of Chicago, and only attended his first Techno show in 2019 hosted by Format Recordings and Obscure. He was quickly entranced by the music and its community, proceeding full-throttle into the scene.

Most people probably know Josh Tong for his relentless delivery of energy on the dancefloor. He has also been fiercely honing his craft as a DJ, drawn to the deep subs and heavy kicks, as well as hypnotic rings and textures that lift and carry the deep end. As an obsessive Gemini, he spends most of his free time combing through new Techno track releases and developing hyper-specific organization systems that help him better understand the auditory vocabulary of Techno.

He approaches tracks as sonic elements that should be layered and built into something that is alive, rather than just selecting tracks. Josh made his club debut for Research & Development at Podlasie Club in April 2024, and ever since then has played for other local fixtures like Yard Jamz, Ego Death, and Astral Undertones.

He is currently a resident DJ with Format Recordings and newly formed "Entropic".
